Writer, folklorist, photographer and filmmaker Alan Govenar is president of Documentary Arts, a non-profit organization in Dallas, Texas dedicated to presenting new perspectives on historical issues and diverse cultural practices. Govenar has produced and directed numerous films in association with NOVA, La Sept/Arte, and PBS television. His previous documentaries include ‘Master Qi and the Monkey King’, which presents the Qi Shu Fang Peking Opera Company, established by a group of exiled Chinese performers in New York City, and ‘Extraordinary Ordinary People’, a music-fueled journey across America that documents the multi-cultural folk traditions of the United States.

His film "Tatoo Uprising" was selected for screening at Foça Film Days 2022.
